Well it’s crazy to think that in a week I’ll be en route to Kathmandu via Vancouver and Guangzhou.
I realized that in all the busyness leading up to this trek, I forgot to write about our fundraising efforts for the CNIB! Here is an email I sent out to family and friends. For anyone wanting to contribute, thanks in advance for your contribution!
A couple of years ago, my friend Dan and I took part in the Big Mountain Challenge to raise money for the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Two weeks today, we’re at it again. We are upping the scale of our hike and trekking to Everest Base Camp in Nepal! We felt it would be a great opportunity to raise money for a great organization, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).
Why the CNIB? We both have reasons for choosing the CNIB, but one of the reasons that is close for both of us: When Dan was in his mid 20s he learned that his retinas weren’t all they were cracked up to be. Without getting into the details, the news came as a shock. Until that time he’d never really given his vision much thought; he’d never actually considered what his life might be like if he couldn’t see. Dan and I have been on several mountain adventures together and have been good friends for a long time. It’s always concerning when he has problems with his vision, but I know he is supported. The CNIB does amazing work to help blind and partially sighted people across the country live full lives.
Together Dan and I are hoping to raise at least $5361 for the CNIB. That’s $1 for every meter above sea level we’ll be once we make it to Base Camp. We’re almost at 25% of our goal! (Update: We’re at 31%!) Any amount is much appreciated.
